Main Road, Leverton
We've extended our range of activities.
I am Rosemarie Smith nee Mayhead I was born at home on the 17 May 1944 the third of six children, my family moved back to West Sussex, from Portsmouth, during the second world war, I believe that I may be the first Mayhead born in West Sussex since the Mayhead name disappeared from this area. (unless you know differently) My interest in genealogy started when I decided to trace my own branch of the family, it did not take long to realize that Mayhead was not a common name so I decided to broaden my research to include all references to the name, subsequently I registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.
The Mayhead family origins as yet are vague, but early records are found in the village of Oving, West Sussex and London, England. Some evidence of an early connection between the two locations is
apparent in census and church records.
The purpose of this site is to encourage others to help gather written and photographic information for a one- name study of the family, at the same time helping any one interested in genealogy and in particular the Mayhead family, including variations of the name.
So far donated information and my own research has made it possible to assist two branches of the family in the U.S.A. two in New Zealand, one in Australia and several in the UK.
The photo album is a bit slow in taking off but I still hope to expand it into a useful research tool as I believe that most of us has in our possession a family photo but who is it? well if a sufficiently large library can be set up and published surly sooner or later a match will be found.
